Behold...

... Jimi's BBQ hot wings.

Squirrel on a Hot Bark Tree

The squirrels must have been really hot this Sunday afternoon. They kept digging out holes in the dirt below the tree and lying down in them. One of them finally just spread eagle at the base and lay there for a nap.

Karma on the Couch

Pineapple Champagne Cocktail

I like to get champagne (well, sparkling wine really) every once in a while. Made a cocktail with half pineapple juice & half champagne. Very refreshing! I've starting stocking those little cans of juice in the pantry. They come in handy for drinks, desserts and meat dishes.

Strawberry Shortcake

I tried my hand at making homemade strawberry shortcake. Made the cakes from this recipe, which I highly recommend since all of the ingredients are in the average kitchen. Very easy and really good right out of the oven.

Another Snow Cone!

This time it's strawberry with cream.

Snow Cones!

I am so addicted to the snow cones from Sno Beach (34th & Guadalupe), right down the street from my office. The are really cheap, just $1.50 for a small, and for an extra 50 cents they'll put cream on it. So far this season I've had coconut & cream, wedding cake & cream and peaches & cream. They also have caramel topping, so I might have to try that on apple. Yum.

Tomatoes from the Garden

Well the first tomatoes are ready from our garden. I think I'm giving up on growing them next year. They just haven't done very well on that side of the house. The zebras sure are pretty though.

French Onion Soup

We've gotten tons of organic red & yellow onions from the farm the past couple of weeks. What else could I make but french onion soup! I used this recipe as a base and modified it quite a bit. I sauteed the onions with a little sugar (a Julia Childs tip) for over an hour until they were caramelized and a dark golden brown. Added fresh sage, used homemade chicken stock instead of beef broth (and used a lot more liquid), and finished it off with 1/4 cup sherry. Tres magnifique!

Karma & Her Tongue

Guinea Hen Chicks

The guinea hen flock down the street had babies! They are tiny and super cute. I tried to capture their scurrying in a little video.

Berry Rum Punch

This is a fabulous recipe, and the drink had such a pretty color. Next time I would add less sugar. Great drink for a party!
